The Senior animal research associate will be responsible for overseeing and performing in vivo studies to support all the therapeutic areas of the translational team.
  • Responsible for the submission, amendment and continuation of IACUC protocols covering all small animal studies
  • Primary interface with regulatory agencies for animal welfare and veterinarial staff within the animal facility
  • Supervise the current in vivo staff members
  • Oversee and perform large numbers of in vivo studies
  • Maintain breeding colonies 
  • Scheduling and following multiple concurrent studies according to the experimental design
  • Perform and oversee technical procedures  for animal studies
  • Animal and general supply and reagent ordering 

  • Perform in vivo experiments in laboratory animals according to applicable regulations; studies will utilize mice and also rats, rabbits and other species, as needed
  • Train and assist technical staff in the performance of in vivo experiments.  Responsible for all safety aspects and best practices, and employee training.
  • Ensure departmental goals and objectives are met and aligned to the broader organizational goals and objectives.
  • Prioritize and plan projects and workloads, manage resources and personnel scheduling. Write and review animal protocols for IACUC approval
  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of our external vivarium vendor

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage performance and talent

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required; Master’s degree in relevant field preferred
  • Generally has 5-8 years of experience
  • Advanced skills on handling, restraining, dosing and performing a variety of procedures on study animals required
  • Previous mentoring, management or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to manage large mouse colonies experience required
  • Excellent organizational, communication and collaborations skills
  • Keep accurate records, follow instructions and comply with company policies
  • Experience with AAV vector delivery is a plus.
  • Experience with Ocular, CNS and Hematological related animal models and surgical techniques a plus
  • Local Travel Required
