The Genetic Diagnostic Liaison (GDL) is a field based commercial team member in the  East  Zone responsible for  promotion of Spark Therapeutics approved products and patient identification. The core objective will be to establish deep diagnostic and product expertise in line with the overarching diagnostic & marketing strategy within the assigned Zone.   
The GDL will drive product promotion and genotyping diagnostic efforts to successfully execute Spark’s genotyping programs through kit distribution, sample analysis, and clarity of results.  
S/he will be responsible for educating and promoting Spark Therapeutic products & services to the relevant specialists and stakeholders, which may include: ophthalmologists, retina specialists, pediatric ophthalmologists, optometrists and others that manage patients who meet the product indication criteria within their assigned zone. 
The GDL is responsible for establishing relationships with and educating identified genetic labs and fostering partnerships to support high quality assays and reporting.   

The GDL will work in partnership with a Spark cross-functional team members that  include Market Access, Patient Services, Medical Affairs, Marketing and Commercial Operations to achieve appropriate zone specific goals and functional objectives.  

The GDL will also be responsible for executing market development programs by collaborating with key stakeholders within commercial operations. S/he will contribute to ongoing  support of the Diagnostic and Marketing Strategy guiding regional implementation of the plan.   

  • Develop broad target lists to find physicians with relevant patients and identify retina  practices that have a patient need for genotyping
  • Promote Spark products and services
  • Understand retina  practice population and connect with retina specialists to build awareness of Sparks genetic testing program
  • Develop and foster relationships with retinal specialists to identify patients to get genotyped and ensure patients meet criteria for genotyping
  • Lead discussion and educate on the importance of genotyping and disease awareness of IRD diseases
  • Deliver and implement speaker disease and diagnostic educational programs
  • Ensure ethical application of practices and processes for genotyping
  • Forward questions from retinal practices into medical information requests
  • Communicate with Zone team on relevant retinal practices
  • Build and establish genetic lab relationships
  • Liaison between Spark and genetic diagnostic lab
  • Improve insights by educating the importance of capturing specific data 
  • Provide technical expertise/resources to refine and develop IRD gene panels 
  • Facilitate improvement of reporting and interpretation of results
  • Provide expertise and guidance on best practices to refine test requisition forms 
  • Identify and develop Genetic Testing Key Opinion Leaders(KOLs) through promotion and education
  • Utilize KOL network to promote best practices across diagnostic labs/HCPs
  • Speaker training on diagnostic promotional program
  • Provide direct field diagnostic training
  • Appropriately participate in patient advocacy, outreach and identification with local advocacy organizations
  • Attend conferences to deliver education on disease and diagnostics (genetic testing)
  • GDL will provide input and participate in cross-functional initiatives; Deliver high-quality Product/diagnostic education presentations in a variety of settings and to obtain valuable feedback and market intelligence to be incorporated into future presentations/strategic plans

  • BA/BS degree required; healthcare degree strongly preferred (MS, RN, PA, PharmD, PhD)
  • Generally has 10 years of pharma/biotech industry experience in a combination of sales, clinical/medical, marketing, and/or diagnostics with a proven track record in delivering against goals while working in high performing diverse teams required
  • Must possess strong Commercial and Scientific Acumen
  • Experience in working effectively with KOLs, labs and other key stakeholders
  • Prior experience in Rare or Ultra Rare diseased with strong patient focus
  • Demonstrated success in operating effectively in highly matrixed organizations where influencing skills are critical to day to day success
  • Experience in building strong and effective third party partnerships
  • Knowledge of ophthalmology and/or hematology strongly preferred
  • Must be able to travel extensively
